Conservation in Action
Building a model where people, wildlife, and land thrive together.
Across 44,000 acres of Laikipia wilderness, Suyian demonstrates that people, livestock, and wildlife can thrive together through science-led management, community empowerment, and sustainable tourism. This is conservation at its most integrated — and its most hopeful.
Our Living Model for the Future of Conservation:
Wildlife Protection & Rewilding
We’re restoring balance between species, space, and people.
Our team of 40 rangers operates from six patrol bases, safeguarding more than 100 mammal species, including endangered Grevy’s zebra, African wild dog, and cheetah. Using EarthRanger technology and annual aerial surveys, we monitor wildlife movements, resolve human–wildlife conflict, and protect migration corridors.
With partners like Space for Giants and Kenya Wildlife Service, Suyian is preparing for the return of the black rhino by 2028 — a milestone that will anchor East Africa’s largest rewilding initiative.
Regenerative Land Use
We’re healing rangelands to sustain both life and livelihood.
Suyian is home to 3,000 Boran cattle, managed through rotational grazing and predator-friendly ranching. Livestock and landscapes coexist in balance — restoring soil, improving grass quality, and supporting plains game that attract predators.
More than 90% of the conservancy remains cattle-free at any given time, allowing pastures to recover naturally. This regenerative model sequesters carbon, funds conservation, and creates space where both people and wildlife can thrive.
Community Training & Livelihoods
We’re empowering people to lead the future of conservation.
Through Suyian Soul, we train herders, rangers, and guides in rangeland management, wildlife stewardship, and ecological monitoring. Beyond our boundaries, we partner with neighbouring communities to restore degraded lands and build local capacity for governance and coexistence.
When people thrive, conservation endures — every job, every skill, and every partnership strengthens the social fabric that sustains the wild.
Tourism With Purpose
We’re redefining travel as a force for regeneration.
Now open, andBeyond Suyian Lodge offers guests a deeply immersive experience in one of Kenya’s most intact wilderness landscapes. Every stay directly funds ranger patrols, land restoration, and education — turning travel into tangible impact.
This is conservation tourism at its best: a model where luxury and purpose align, and every guest becomes part of the story that keeps this land wild.
Protecting ecosystems. Empowering people. Sustaining the wild.
A Living Model for Coexistence
Together, we’re redefining what protected areas can be — and building a future where wildlife, people, and purpose thrive in harmony. Suyian exists to protect and restore Laikipia’s vital ecosystems, empower its people, and become a world-class model of conservation where wildlife, livestock, and communities flourish together.
